Nine Mile
On your journey to Nine Mile you will enjoy breathtaking views while absorbing the natural beauty of the tranquil Jamaican countryside. Look out for the more than 200 species of flowering plants and indigenous trees. Here you will see the birth and final resting place of Jamaica's legendary musician "Robert Nesta Marley". You will be introduce to a community that helped influence one of the greatest musicians of this century. It will leave you with a better understanding of a young man, whose vision helped change the thoughts of people worldwide. You'll experience the friendly "vibes" that influenced Bob to write songs such as 'One Love' and 'Three Little Birds'. On the tour, you will enjoy the brilliant and evocative music Bob Marley gave the world. An authentic Rastafarian guide will share with you the natural world of Bob Marley's birthplace, a meditative getaway from the grind of his strenuous career. The tour also touches on the childhood house, the natural kitchen, the "Mt. Zion Rock" (Bob's meditation spot), the "Rock Pillow" (made famous in the song "Talking Blues"). The guide will also share with you information on Marley's later years and on his move and subsequent life in Kingston. The highlight of the tour is walking through the beautiful mausoleum, Bob's final resting place. You will be moved by the calm as you step into the beautiful mausoleum where Marley is laid to rest.
Brimmer Hall Plantation
Tractor drawn Jitneys will transport you through the plantation where the farmers provide an interesting commentary and demonstration of the working of the property. You will be shown how numerous tropical crops are cultivated including, bananas, pineapples, coconuts, cocoa, pimento, coffee and sugar cane. Sample fresh coconut, sugar cane and unlimited fruit punches or rum swizzle. After this interesting tour of the plantation estate you will be taken back to the Great House. Brimmer Hall was built in the 18th century and is the centerpiece of the 2,000 acre estate. It is immaculate and lavishly furnished with original pieces and antiques. It presents a glimpse of life on a plantation during Jamaica's robust 18th Century period. For those of you wishing to purchase some Jamaican handicrafts, the former stables have been converted into charming boutiques that you may browse through.
Firefly
Firefly was once the lookout of pirate Henry Morgan, the most wicked man in the world. He frolicked at this fort high above sea level, where he had the advantage of spying on would-be attackers long before they could land on the island. This view is probably why the noted playwright Noel Coward and author Ian Fleming (of James Bond fame) fell in love with this enchanted property. You'll have an exhilarating tour of the Pirates Lookout and the Museum, which is the fascinating restored home of Noel Coward. Between 1956 and 1973 this was the home of Sir Noel Coward, the English playwright, actor, songwriter and wit. The English style cottage is set amidst wide lawns on top of a hill with a breath-taking view of the coastline about three miles from Port Maria. On his death he left the property to a friend who gave it to the country. It fell into disrepair and the property was leased by The Jamaica Heritage Trust to Island Outposts. It was meticulously restored and in 1993 was reopened to the public as a museum. Because of Noel Coward's experience with fireflies (peeny wallies) there, one evening he named it Firefly. The home has hosted many of the rich and famous, including Liz Taylor, Raquel Welch, the Queen of England, U2, Grace Jones and many more.
